Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit alternative: a $3.99 measured report vs a $1,188/yr subscription
Both tools answer "does AI recommend my business?" They are built for different people, at different prices, with different ideas of what a number should mean. Here is the honest breakdown, including what Semrush does better. All claims dated July 2026; verify current pricing before you buy anything, including from us.
Keep Semrush if your team already lives in the platform and wants daily AI data next to keyword and backlink tools. Choose OTW Signal if you want a one-time, evidence-backed answer with a margin of error, for $3.99, with nothing to cancel.
The pricing math
Semrush sells AI visibility two ways, and the cheaper one is the harder to find. The standalone AI Visibility Toolkit is $99/month per domain on an annual commitment, about $1,188/year per website. That covers one domain and 25 tracked prompts, with additional domains at $99/month each and extra seats at $99/month each for toolkit access. Extra report packs run $10 to $20. Semrush's public pricing page, meanwhile, now leads with the "Semrush One" bundles that fold AI visibility in with classic SEO: $199, $299, and $549/month, discounted to roughly $165, $248, and $456 when billed annually. Independent reviewers note there is no toolkit-specific free trial. (Prices as published in July 2026, from Semrush's pricing page and third-party reviews; check current sources before relying on them, since Semrush changed this lineup once already this year.)
OTW Signal is $3.99 once for a full ChatGPT report; Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity are $15 each as add-ons, so all four engines together are $48.99, once. A re-check after you make changes is $29. A tracking dashboard, if you want one, is $99/month, the price of Semrush's toolkit, and it re-measures everything weekly with the same rigor. Nothing auto-renews without you choosing it.
Once a day vs 8 times per question
Semrush's Prompt Tracking checks each tracked prompt once daily, the same way its traditional rank tracking works, and no sampling methodology is disclosed in its documentation. Semrush's own knowledge base is candid about the consequence: "AI search and LLM responses are fast-changing and highly personalized, which means no platform can provide exact numbers on visibility", and it frames its metrics as "reliable directional signals" (Semrush KB, data methodology article, retrieved July 2026).
We think that candor deserves respect, and a better answer. AI answers change between runs, so OTW Signal asks every question 8 times per engine and reports your mention rate with a 95% confidence interval, so you know exactly how much the answers move and how sure you can be. The mathematics are public in our methodology whitepaper.
Evidence you can audit
Semrush does show raw LLM responses for tracked prompts; a December 2025 independent review found they display as unformatted pop-up text without statistical context. OTW attaches every raw AI answer, organized per question, linked from every number in the report, so you can audit any claim down to the transcript. See it yourself in the ungated sample report.

What Semrush does better, stated plainly
- Daily longitudinal tracking beside your keyword and backlink workflows, in one platform your team may already know.
- Clickstream-based Brand Performance built on a very large prompt database, useful for enterprise trend analysis.
- Team features: seats, scheduled PDF reporting, agency workflows.
- Google AI Overviews and AI Mode coverage, which we do not measure today.
If those are the things you need daily, keep Semrush. Seriously. We would rather you buy the right tool than churn off ours.
Billing you do not have to think about
One $3.99 charge. No trial that converts, no annual commitment, nothing to cancel. We built it this way because the alternative model has costs beyond money: at the time of writing, Semrush's Trustpilot rating sits near 2.4, with billing and cancellation complaints among the most common themes, and reviewers reported a $139-to-$199 entry-tier price increase in 2026. (Dated third-party observations; check current sources yourself.)
Who each is for
Semrush: SEO professionals and agencies already inside the platform, enterprises that need daily dashboards and team seats.
OTW Signal: owners, consultants, and micro-agencies who need a client-defensible number per business, without per-domain subscription stacking: measure a client for $3.99, not $99/month per domain.
Common questions
I already pay for Semrush. Why would I buy this?
Keep it. For $3.99, audit it: run our report on the same business and compare. Our report shows every raw answer and a margin of error; if the two tools disagree, you will be able to see why in the transcripts.
Why is OTW so cheap?
Different model: we get paid per answer, not per month of access. $3.99 covers the AI costs of your first report; we earn more only when you choose a re-check or the dashboard.
Is this comparison fair?
We tried hard to make it so: every factual claim is dated, the "what Semrush does better" section is real, and our own published AI-visibility score was 0% when we first measured it, because that is what the data said. If anything here is out of date, email melinda@otwmotion.com and we will fix it.
