The best SEO tools in 2026, compared
Published 23 October 2026 · Every vendor page read 23 October 2026
An all-in-one SEO suite bundles the four jobs most sites need: a keyword database to find what people search for, a rank tracker to watch where you appear, a site audit to find what is broken, and a backlink index to see who links to whom, with competitor views across all of them. In 2026 every suite below has added some form of AI-answer tracking on top. The eight here are the ones a small business or an agency meets first.
Three things to check before the price. How often the rank tracker actually updates: Semrush, SE Ranking and Serpstat say daily on every plan; Ahrefs and Moz say weekly on every plan; Mangools is weekly below its top tier; Ubersuggest's own pages say both. What the audit limit is, in pages per month, because a 40-page site and a 40,000-page site need different tools. And whether the index numbers on the homepage match the ones in the help centre, because at four of these eight vendors they do not. Everything here is from the vendors' own pages on 23 October 2026, and where a price would not render for us the table says so.
How this comparison was made. We read each vendor's own pricing, feature and help pages on 23 October 2026 and wrote down what they said, with the page it came from; where a page did not state something, the table says so. Screenshots are of each vendor's public website on that day. Prices are the published price before tax and they change without notice, so check the vendor's page before you buy.
Nobody paid to be here. No vendor paid to be included, and none can pay to be ranked, which is why the table is in no particular order. If we ever carry a paid placement it will be labelled as one, on the page, next to the listing. Our own product is in the table because leaving it out would be the dishonest option; what the others do better is stated in its own section. Corrections from vendors are welcome at support@otwmotion.com.
The eight suites at a glance
Prices are each vendor's published price before tax for the smallest paid plan, monthly billing where the vendor shows it, read on 23 October 2026. "Tracking" is keywords tracked at that price and how often they refresh, in the vendor's own words.

Semrush
A buyer who wants SEO and AI-answer tracking in one subscription and will pay the entry price for it
- Starts at
- The SEO plan, $139 a month billed monthly or $117.33 billed annually: 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, Position Tracking, Site Audit, basic keyword and competitor research, AI visibility reports. Starter is $199 and adds 50 tracked prompts a day; Pro+ is $299 for 15 sites and 1,500 keywords. Extra users from $45 a month.
- Free
- A free plan with 1 demo project and 10 reports a day, a 7-day trial, and free tools including an AI visibility checker.
- Index claims
- 28.8 billion keywords, 142 geographic databases, 43 trillion backlinks, 317 million AI prompts, by its own data page.
- Tracking, audit, Search Console
- Daily rank data with mobile and desktop splits and postcode-level local; the audit limit for the $139 plan is not on the pricing page (its knowledge base gives 100,000 pages a month for the tier it maps to, our inference). Search Console and GA4 combine in reports through the $10 Base Report add-on.
Semrush is the largest suite here and the one with the most AI-search machinery: prompt tracking across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and AI Overviews, AI sentiment, AI visibility reports for any domain, and an audit that checks whether AI crawlers can reach your pages. Its plan ladder was rebuilt this year to SEO, Starter, Pro+ and Advanced, and Adobe completed its acquisition of the company in April 2026.
The entry plan tracks 500 keywords on 5 sites with no Share of Voice, and prompt tracking in volume starts one tier up at $199. Older articles quoting Pro, Guru and Business are describing plans that now survive only in the knowledge base; its footer still says Semrush Holdings.
Ahrefs
A buyer who wants backlink and keyword data first and accepts weekly rank updates; Starter is the cheap way in
- Starts at
- Starter, $29 a month, monthly only, with 200 credits a month across the main tools and no add-ons. Lite, the first full plan, is $129 a month billed monthly (the page's own plan data prices the year at $1,290), with 750 tracked keywords, 1 user, 6 months of history and 2,500 rows per report. Standard is $249.
- Free
- Ahrefs Free (the renamed Webmaster Tools): unlimited verified sites, Site Audit with 5,000 crawl credits a month per project, and 1,000 backlinks and keywords visible at once. No Keywords Explorer or Rank Tracker.
- Index claims
- 29 billion filtered keywords from 110 billion seen, 35 trillion external backlinks in history, 494 billion pages, 286 million domains, refreshed every 15 to 30 minutes, by its data page. Its homepage prints 41.9 billion keywords and 170 trillion pages for different things being counted.
- Tracking, audit, Search Console
- Rank Tracker updates weekly on every plan, by its help centre (September 2026) and its own comparison table. Lite audits 100,000 crawl credits a month. Search Console connects ("GSC Insights"), with site structure from Standard.
Ahrefs is the backlink and keyword specialist, with the most generous free tier here for your own verified sites and a $29 Starter that buys a taste of everything. Brand Radar tracks AI prompts daily across six AI indexes from the Lite plan, with a standalone AI product from $199.
Weekly rank tracking on every plan is the thing most comparison articles get wrong about Ahrefs, and the thing to know if you watch positions closely. Lite is a one-user plan with 2,500 rows per report and extra users at $40; the vendor says it never runs discounts and does not refund.
Moz Pro
A small site owner who values Moz's authority metrics and can live with weekly, top-20 rank data
- Starts at
- Starter, $49 a month for one site, with its contents not stated on the pricing page. Standard, $99 a month billed monthly or $79 billed yearly, is the first plan with published limits: 1 user, 3 tracked sites, 300 keywords, 150 keyword queries a month, 5,000 backlink queries. Medium is $179.
- Free
- No free plan of Moz Pro; free tools (Domain Analysis, Keyword Explorer, Link Explorer, MozBar) and a free trial of unstated length.
- Index claims
- 1.25 billion keyword suggestions and 44.8 trillion links indexed, by its homepage; its own menus say 44 trillion and 40 trillion on other pages.
- Tracking, audit, Search Console
- Rankings update once a week on a fixed day and only the top 20 results are tracked, for Google, Google Mobile, Bing and Yahoo. Standard audits 400,000 pages a month. Search Console is not documented in its 21 Moz Pro guides; Google Analytics is.
Moz Pro is the suite people buy for Domain Authority and Page Authority, with a clean keyword tool and a large audit allowance at Standard. Its AI layer is real at entry: three AI visibility dashboards, 150 tracked prompts across GPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode, weekly, with sentiment and citation data.
Weekly tracking to position 20 is the limit that matters, and the $49 Starter's contents are not published anywhere we could read. Its homepage says 170+ search engines for rank tracking; its help centre names four.
SE Ranking
A small agency that wants daily rank tracking and AI prompt tracking included at the entry price
- Starts at
- Core, $129 a month billed monthly or $103.20 billed annually: 10 projects, 1 seat, 2,000 keywords daily, 100 AI prompts a day, 250,000 audit pages a month, 6 months of history, 25,000 API credits. Growth is $279 for 5,000 keywords and all-time history.
- Free
- No free plan. A 14-day trial without a card with 750 keywords a day, and a free rank checker of 5 keywords a day.
- Index claims
- 5.5 billion keywords across 188 databases and 2.7 trillion backlinks across 420 million domains, by its data page (its FAQ says 5.4 billion).
- Tracking, audit, Search Console
- Daily tracking on Google, Bing, Yahoo and YouTube, desktop and mobile, down to postcode, with 35+ SERP features including AI Overviews; 250,000 audit pages a month; Search Console, GA4, Looker Studio and Matomo connect on Core.
SE Ranking's entry plan carries more than any other here at its price: 2,000 daily keywords, a quarter-million audit pages, AI prompt tracking across five engines, local tracking and Search Console, in one subscription. Its own figures put 25.5 million prompts tracked across five AI engines.
Six months of history at entry is the trade, and its pages disagree with each other in small ways: the rank tracker FAQ still says subscriptions start at $119, and the API is priced three different ways across its site. White label is an annual-only add-on at $69 a month.
Mangools
A solo operator who wants keyword research and light rank tracking at a low price and does not need daily updates
- Starts at
- Not readable: the pricing page is a script shell with no prices in it. A third-party price tracker verified Basic at $61 a month monthly or $37.70 billed annually on 3 July 2026, after a July restructure from four tiers to three; an April 2026 source listed Basic at $49. The vendor's own FAQ says annual billing saves up to 35%. Confirm on the page.
- Free
- A free plan without a card: 5 keyword lookups a day with 15 related and 5 competitor keywords each, plus free tools including an AI search grader.
- Index claims
- 2.5 billion keywords, 65,000 city-level locations, 30 million SERPs; the 9.5 trillion backlink index is Majestic's, resold.
- Tracking, audit, Search Console
- SERPWatcher updates weekly on Basic and Premium and daily on Agency; a keyword on desktop and mobile counts as two. There is no site audit tool in the bundle. Search Console import is listed under rank tracking.
Mangools is the friendly bundle: KWFinder, SERPChecker, SERPWatcher, LinkMiner and SiteProfiler, with an AI Search Watcher that runs each prompt several times across eight AI models. For keyword research on a budget it is the tool people recommend to each other.
It is not a full suite: no site audit, weekly tracking below the top tier, one seat below Premium, and lookup caps that reset every 24 hours. The price could not be read from the vendor's own page, which is a poor sign for a pricing page.
Ubersuggest
A beginner or small business that wants guided fixes and basic AI-answer tracking at a low monthly price
- Starts at
- Not readable: plan prices render by script. The vendor's own competitor comparison on the same page gives its range as US$29 to US$99 a month; secondary sources disagree with each other by more than two to one. 7-day trial, card required; add-ons at $5 a month each.
- Free
- A free plan for light research, limits not stated, and free searches on the homepage.
- Index claims
- 2.2 billion tracked keywords, 20 million indexed AI conversations, 230 markets, 11 billion pages, by its homepage. Backlinks come from "multiple data providers"; no index size is stated.
- Tracking, audit, Search Console
- The pricing table says 125 keywords per project updated weekly and a 1,000-page audit weekly; the homepage says daily positions. Signing in with Google gives it Search Console access.
Ubersuggest is the on-ramp: guided fixes, a project per brand, AI prompt ideas, an AI search visibility score, and a ChatGPT app. Its new tagline is "Rank in Google. Get cited by AI."
The entry plan tracks AI visibility on 10 prompts updated monthly with one response each, Google AI Overview tracking is Enterprise only, there is no API and no white label, and the page contradicts itself on whether rank updates are daily or weekly. Prices were not readable and the secondary sources conflict, so treat any Ubersuggest figure in any article as unconfirmed until the page shows it.
Similarweb
A buyer whose first need is traffic and market intelligence, with SEO tooling second; not an entry-price comparison
- Starts at
- Not published. The pricing page is "Talk to sales" and mentions self-service packages without prices. Secondary sources agree on $125 a month billed annually for a Starter tier, and the only dated one says it could not re-verify that price since January 2025.
- Free
- Free tools (traffic checker, keyword tool, AI traffic checker) that it describes as a high-level sample, and free-trial buttons of unstated length.
- Index claims
- 5 billion search terms, 100 million+ websites, 10 billion content pages, 10 years of history, by its homepage. No backlink index size is stated.
- Tracking, audit, Search Console
- Its rank tracker article answered our fetch with a 403; search snippets describe daily updates down to postcode and up to 200,000 keywords, which we could not confirm. No audit limit and no Search Console connection are stated on readable pages.
Similarweb is a market intelligence company with SEO tools attached: traffic estimates for any site, AI traffic trackers for six assistants, and an AI search intelligence suite covering brand visibility, citations, prompts and sentiment. If your question is where a competitor's traffic comes from, nothing else here answers it.
It will not tell you its price, its support centre and its pricing details are behind a bot challenge, and nothing about rank tracking or audits could be read from a vendor page. It is on this list because people compare it; it is not an entry-price buy.
Serpstat
A single user who wants daily rank tracking and a site audit for the lowest full-suite entry price in this set
- Starts at
- Individual, $50 a month billed monthly; annual billing is shown only as "save $228 a year", about $31 a month by arithmetic. 5 projects, 100 searches a day, 10,000 position checks a month, 30,000 audit pages (5,000 per scan), one user, no API. Team is $100 with 3 users, API, MCP and 1,500 AI visibility checks.
- Free
- No free plan. A 7-day trial with a card and a $1 verification charge that is refunded, auto-renewing unless cancelled; free SEO tools on the site.
- Index claims
- 8.62 billion keywords, 1.5 billion domains, 529 billion backlinks, 230 countries, by its homepage; its rank tracker page says 7.53 billion keywords.
- Tracking, audit, Search Console
- Daily updates on all plans, desktop and mobile, organic and paid, any country, state or city, with Google AI Overview position tracking. Audit of 30,000 pages a month at entry. Search Console is not stated.
Serpstat is the cheapest way in this set to get daily rank tracking, a real site audit, keyword research and backlinks in one tool, and its AI Overview position tracking is on every plan. The company has been independent since 2015 and its pricing is unusually plain.
The entry plan is one user with 100 searches a day and no API, AI tools or keyword lists; AI Visibility across ChatGPT, Grok and Gemini starts at Team. Its pricing table prints a few cells that look like display errors, and its data page returned a 404.
OTW Signal SEO (that's us)
A business that wants Google's own report of its site turned into decisions, free, and does not need a keyword database, competitor data or backlinks
- Starts at
- Free for every business, no plan to pick. Connecting Google Search Console is optional and read-only; we cannot change anything in your account and you can remove access from Google at any time.
- Free
- Every SEO screen and the site audit, for every business. AI visibility, the Console's one paid part, starts at $59 a month or $590 a year: 20 buyer questions on Google AI Overview, asked weekly, with every answer kept word for word. It scales up to seven AI engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot on Bing), up to 8 asks per question and daily runs, with a 7-day free trial that measures daily on three engines.
- Index claims
- None. There is no keyword database, no search volume, no competitor rankings, no backlink index. Everything on the SEO screens comes from Google's own report of your site and from reading your own pages.
- Tracking, audit, Search Console
- Position Tracking shows every search Google reports for your site as a map of impressions against position, with a zone of searches worth a push; Site Audit reads up to 40 pages and names a fix for each problem; Devices and Countries shows the split Google reports. Search Console is the source, not an integration.
Seven screens, all free: a dashboard with the trend, winners and losers and click opportunities; Position Tracking; Keywords; Pages; Page Ideas, which say what to change on each page and why; Two Pages, One Search, for pages competing with each other for the same query; Devices and Countries; and Site Audit. It is built to turn the report Google already gives you into the next thing to do, in the same Console as your social calendar, your Meta ad spend and your AI visibility measurement.
What the others do better, stated plainly. Every suite above has a keyword database with search volume, tracks competitors, and most have a backlink index; we have none of those. All of them let you choose a keyword list to watch whether or not you rank yet; we show only the searches Google reports you in. Their audits cover tens or hundreds of thousands of pages; ours reads 40. Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking, Moz and Serpstat include some AI-answer tracking in the suite price; ours is the Console's paid AI visibility measurement, from $59 a month. If you need research, competitors or links, pick a suite. If you want Google's own report of your site turned into decisions, free, start here.
How to choose
- SEO plus AI-answer tracking in one subscription, and the budget for it? Semrush from $139 a month, with prompt tracking in volume from $199.
- Backlinks and keyword data first, and weekly rank data is fine? Ahrefs: Starter at $29 to try it, Lite at $129, and a strong free tier for your own sites.
- The most tracking and auditing per dollar at entry, including AI prompts and Search Console? SE Ranking Core, $129 a month, with six months of history.
- Daily tracking and a site audit for the least money? Serpstat Individual, $50 a month, one user.
- Authority metrics and a large audit allowance, weekly top-20 tracking is enough? Moz Pro Standard, $99 a month.
- Keyword research on a budget, no audit needed? Mangools, with the price read from the page, since we could not.
- A beginner who wants guided fixes? Ubersuggest, with the same caveat on price.
- Traffic and market intelligence first? Similarweb, through sales.
- Google's own report of your site, turned into what to do next, free? That is OTW Signal SEO, with no database, competitors or links.
FAQ
Do I need an SEO suite, or is Google Search Console enough?
Search Console tells you how your own site already performs in Google: the searches you appear for, impressions, clicks and position. A suite adds what Search Console cannot know: how often people search for things you do not rank for yet, what your competitors rank for, who links to them, and a crawler that reads your whole site. If your questions are about your own site's current standing and what to fix, Search Console and tools built on it (including OTW Signal SEO, free) answer them. If your questions are about the market around you, you need a suite.
Why do rank tracking frequencies differ, and does it matter?
Semrush, SE Ranking and Serpstat update daily on every plan; Ahrefs and Moz update weekly on every plan; Mangools is weekly below its Agency tier; Ubersuggest's pricing table says weekly and its homepage says daily. It matters if you need to see the effect of a change, a launch or a penalty within the week, and it matters less for a monthly report. Many comparison articles assume daily for every suite; two of these eight say weekly in their own help centres.
Are the keyword and backlink database sizes comparable?
Not directly, and several vendors disagree with themselves. Ahrefs prints 41.9 billion keywords on its homepage and 29 billion filtered keywords on its data page; Moz prints 44.8 trillion links in one place and 40 trillion in another; Serpstat prints 8.62 billion keywords on its homepage and 7.53 billion on its rank tracker page. Mangools' backlink index is Majestic's. Use the numbers as a rough sense of scale, check the vendor's data page rather than its homepage, and judge a database by whether it has your market and your keywords.
